Dear Josephians and Friends of SJC,
Greetings from St. Joseph’s College! I believe when the first Brothers set sail for our beautiful island, it must have been with mixed sentiments: a sense of excitement and a fear of the unknown. They embarked on an adventurous journey to a culture and a way of life that were vastly different from their own. The Brothers landed on 7 November 1875 and immediately took over St Savior’s College (and renamed it St Joseph’s College) the very next day. Hence, the Lasallian Mission started here in Hong Kong from that very day and continues to this day, spanning 150 years!
Reflecting on the past 150 years, we are endlessly thankful to God for His manifold blessings, for which we, Josephians, hold profound gratitude. We take immense pride in the accomplishments of our alumni, who have made significant contributions across diverse fields such as medicine, law, education, politics, science, engineering, finance, sports, entertainment, and more. We are equally excited about the achievements of our current students in academics, sports, and club activities. It is especially gratifying to see some of them representing Hong Kong on the global stage, thereby making a mark for our city!
However, we should not merely dwell on our historical achievements and past glories. We must venture forward into less explored territories. Thus, the theme for our 150th Anniversary, “Honour Our Mission, Forward With Courage,” calls us to embrace the pioneering spirit of our Holy Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle. Josephians are encouraged to be visionary, to innovate, and to always strive to be one step—or even two steps—ahead of the curve.
Traditions, akin to a book of maps, are invaluable as they highlight our past successes and foster a sense of identity and belonging. Nevertheless, these traditions must not become barriers that hinder our progress. We should never rest on our laurels but rather have the boldness to venture beyond the known boundaries to uncover what previous generations of Josephians could not.
Sons of St. Joseph’s, let us be inspired by the same Spirit that motivated our early Brothers and alumni to continue being a beacon of hope for our world, especially for the Last, the Lost, and the Least in our society.
Live Jesus in our hearts!

Message from the Principal
Dear Josephians and Friends,
Established in 1875, St. Joseph’s College is a prestigious grant school situated in the heart of Hong Kong. As the first Catholic boys' school in the territory with rich history and legacy, it offers a comprehensive education grounded in strong Catholic values. Since its founding, St. Joseph’s College has been a cornerstone of academic rigor, extra-curricular activities, personal development, and nurturing generations of leaders who have made significant contributions to society.
As we approach a remarkable milestone in our history – 150th anniversary – I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the journey that St. Joseph's College has undertaken. Our school’s legacy is built upon the foundation laid by those who came before us – dedicated Brothers and educators, supportive parents, loyal alumni, and most importantly, our outstanding students. It is their collective spirit that has enabled St. Joseph’s College to maintain its reputation and impact in these 150 years.
The upcoming year is not just a celebration of our past, but also an opportunity to reflect on our commitment to excellence in education and our core values. We are thrilled to invite you to join us in commemorating this significant milestone through a series of celebratory events, such as the Green and White Grand Open Day in February and the 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner in November. These occasions will serve not only as a tribute to our storied past but also as a platform to inspire future generations of Josephians.
“Honour our mission, forward with courage.” Together, let us honour the tradition of excellence that defines St. Joseph’s College and embrace the opportunities ahead. Your continued support and involvement are crucial to our ongoing success. Thank you for being an integral part of our vibrant community.
